The gateway
to this melancholic kingdom of sadness and grief was opened in July'92,
by vocalist Tear and drummer Flame. At the time, proceedings took place
under the moniker of Incarnated. The first piece of dramatic art was recorded
in October'93 and released in the form of 400 free copies worldwide. The
reactions to this debut release were extremely positive and heartening.
Meanwhile, around middle'94, the band definitely needed a name change
Desire was born
To quench the growing interest of some internationally
active labels, an "Advance Tape" featuring two new songs was
recorded in March'95, with the intent of finding a record deal. Late'95,
and after studying some deal offers, the Portuguese label Skyfall Records
was the chosen one to release Desire's dramatic concept album "Infinity
A Timeless Journey Through An Emotional Dream", something which only
happened in July'96. Both the national and international specialized press
considered this album one of the best Portuguese releases of that year
and the first one appearing in Portugal introducing such a mournful, melodic
and misanthropic sound. After some successful live presentations promoting
the debut album, the band entered the studio in March'97 to record the
second effort: the MCD "Pentacrow", which represents the band's
fifth year of existence. In this work are gathered some of the most important
steps in the band's career: over 45 minutes of tragic, melancholic and
depressive musical landscapes. This album can truly be considered one
of the most successful Portuguese Metal releases of '98. Problems with
Skyfall related to bad promotion and distribution policy with the release
of "Pentacow" led Desire to rescind the contract with the label.
Around the fall of '98, the band started to write material to be featured
in a new opus and a new line-up was gathered in order to set off in search
of a new label. In May 2001, Desire finally hit the L'Enfant Terrible
Studios to record their latest concept album. It was baptized "Locus
Horrendus - The Night Cries of a Sullen Soul" and none other than
Mika Jussila mastered this creation at the Finnvox studios. Press response
has been tremendously enthusiastic and heralds a new epoch for Desire,
who are currently constructing their new website. In the meantime, a suitable
distributor has been found in the Dutch label Two Fat Men (Germany, Austria,
UK, Ireland, Benelux). This means that the dark jewel that is "Locus
Horrendus" will finally be available in the stores very soon! |
