BIOGRAPHY:
It all began in 1995, with the end of a band called Mafetasy. Back then, José Marques & João Lopes decided to create a new project called Ciborium. Soon, Armando Barradas, Nuno Marecos and Antonia Beirante joined the band and tasks were divided as follows: José Marques on guitar and vocals; João Lopes on guitar; Armando Barradas on bass; Nuno Marecos on drums and Antónia Beirante on keyboards. In 1996, and after some technical evolution, they recorded their first and only demo tape at Pé De Vento Studios. It was called "…On The Strayed Pyx" and featured two songs: "Where?" and "Pyx". The following year, promotion was made around the demo; in the meantime the band also wrote the six tracks that would be included on their first CD entitled "Colossal Crags". The album was recorded in November 1997 at Rec N' Roll Studios and produced by Luís Barros. In September 1998, this same release was edited by a sub-label of Independent Records, called Grade. Directly afterwards, a line-up change was necessary: Nuno Marecos left, to be replaced by Bruno Guilherme. Bruno also played at all the ensuing promotional concerts all over Portugal at which Ciborium had the opportunity to play in order to promote "Colossal Crags" during 1999. In January 2000, Antónia left the band and Ricardo Simões took her place, but due to some incompatibilities he was to leave the band just a couple of months later, not being replaced by anyone. Later on in January 2001, João Sequeira joined Ciborium as the new vocalist. The band swiftly started to work on the songs that would compose the 2nd album, "Overgrowing Human Void". Floyd Studio was the chosen place for the recordings of this new work. A few months later, João Lopes left and the band decided not to enroll a new guitar player. Instead, they invited a keyboard player named Ricardo Patricio. His input was added to the new songs in order to enrich and rearrange them in the frame of live representations of this second release of theirs.
